2020 Education Bursary

As part of our LINC agreement, Prairie Spirit teachers can apply to have 65% of tuition expenses to a maximum of $500 per class covered for classes taken while employed by Prairie Spirit. The PSSD-PSTA Local Negotiations Subcommittee met in January to finalize the applications to the Education Bursary Program and the 2020 Education Bursary funds have been disbursed.

With a carry over of $7,483 from the 2019-2020 school year, there was a total of $52,483 available to support teachers’ professional learning. We saw the greatest number of applications this year and all but $653 of the available funds were disbursed.

STF Webinar: Teachers In Their First Five Years

On February 24th, the STF is hosting a free Zoom webinar for all teachers in their first to fifth year in Saskatchewan. The webinar will be facilitated by Troy Milnthorp, STF Senior Managing Director, Corporate Fund Services.

There will be 2 Zoom sessions on February 24th at 4pm and 7pm.  Registration is not required.

PSTA Wellness School Teams

The PSTA Well-Being Committee met Monday to sort through the applications and selected 8 schools for the PSTA Wellness sessions. We wish we could have accepted all of the applicants but with the level of interest our budget would not allow for us to accept all the teams.

Congratulations to the following schools:

  • Aberdeen Composite School
  • Clavet Composite School
  • Delisle Composite School
  • Hepburn School
  • Lake Vista Public School
  • Traditions Elementary School
  • Waldheim School
  • Warman Community Middle School

We look forward to working together to develop practices that will help teachers focus on their wellbeing and balance.

The Prairie Spirit Resource Centre Has Moved

The Resource Centre moved out of the Division Office this summer and was initially relocated to Warman High School, but when Spirit eLearning grew and needed more space, the Resource Centre was relocated again to a portable classroom on the south side of WHS.

Unfortunately, professional resources are currently unavailable as they are being relocated to Warman Community Middle School, but theme boxes and novel sets are available for borrowing.

To request bins from the Resource Centre, you can either email resources@spiritsd.ca or through the Destiny Library website.

Resource Centre hours:

  • Monday 9:30-5:00
  • Thursday 9:30-5:00

Join the PSTA Teacher Wellness Team

The PSTA Teacher Well-Being Team seeks to create an intentional practice of well-being for teachers to be used throughout the school day and build capacity in teacher leaders in the selected schools to enable them to develop, launch and maintain a teacher well-being program within your school.

The PSTA Teacher Well-Being committee is planning three days of learning. While we wish we could meet as a group, due to current restrictions, each school group will meet at a shared location and join the meeting remotely via MS Teams. Remote meetings will allow us bring in guest speakers from across Canada and have tentatively booked Wade Repta, Patrice Palmer and Cara Taylor to present.

The deadline for your school team to apply is December 18th.

Accessing Quarantine Days

Did you know you don’t need to use your sick days when you have been instructed self-isolate? Article 12.2 of Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement entitles a teacher quarantined by order of a medical health officer up to 20 days paid leave for quarantine per academic year.

To access quarantine leave days, submit your leave request in Atrieve as sick days and email Jon Yellowlees with the date public health mandated you to self-isolate, the days you will be required to self-isolate and if possible the name of the person you spoke to at public health so the dates can be re-coded as quarantine days.

STF Members and Family Assistance Program

Did you know all STF members have access to the Members and Family Assistance
Program (MFAP) which provides a wide range of mental health supports for
teachers and their family including referrals for work-life solutions, health & wellness
coaching, legal consultation and short term counselling.

If you need support, please call 1-833-485-4245 any time of day, any day of the year
